Hi Jain, this doesn't sound right at all. Which paste were you using? If you could contact us at consumer.Services@abworldfoods.com we will sort this out for you as our pastes should never be hard in texture.

Tried Pataks paste today for the first time after reading the positive posts here. Shocked to find it was not just sour but bitter and hard. Never again, will stick to making our own.

Bring back the old recipes! I used to LOVE your Vindaloo paste in particular. It was much spicier and richer than the new version. I understand through reading here that you wanted to make lighter and healthier versions of your products. I can't blame you for that, but why on earth didn't you hold on the old ones as well? Would it not have made sense to have your "Vindaloo Original" along side you neew 'Vindaloo Light' on the store shelf? That way those of us who dislike the new versions (and that appears to be most of us?) would still be purchasing your products?

I live - and work - in St. Petersburg, Russia, and have been for the last 22 years. Until recently, my main source for Indian cuisine has been the Tandoor Restaurant near St. Isaac's Cathedral. (An excellent restaurant, by the way.) However, your products have begun to be sold in the Metro store, and, as I like to cook, I have been using them to good effect.

Rather by accident, I came across your site, and realised what more could be done, if I had access to a larger range of your products, in particular to the pastes.

My question is, do you know where in St. Petersburg they might sell your pastes? From the Metro, I can get a sauce, and that is just about it. The sauce is fine, but I would like to get closer to preparing from scratch. (I dislike grinding spices, so I think the pastes would be good alternative.)

Thank you for your consideration of my question.

Hi Kyra - unfortunately we can no longer state that our products are Gluten Free due to changes to the law. I hope that helps!

Hi, I just used Patak's Madras Curry Paste and I agree with 'Laurie (November 17, 2010 at 9:11 pm)' that the curry turned out too sour; my husband also agreed it was too sour, and that was after I'd added some sugar and even a little coconut milk.

I read another review on Amazon that said that this paste is great for marinating meat and for 'dry' dishes like sauteing or grilling, but if you're using it for 'wet'-dishes like curries, then the proportions are off and you may need to adjust it. That reviewer also said that this paste is nonetheless a good source for the 'tamarind taste'. So this gives me a clue that the reviewer probably also found the results a bit sour, if used for curries, because tamarind predominantly gives a sour taste.
