Understanding Guideline Daily Amounts (GDAs)

What are Guidline Daily Amounts (GDAs)?
GDAs are a guide to the total amount of calories, sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt that an average adult should be eating each day. The guidelines are calculated and recommended by health and nutrition professionals.
Your own personal requirements may vary from that of the average adult - for example, a very active person may require more calories or sufferers of particular conditions may need to reduce the amount of salt they consume.
The box below shows the recommended guideline daily amounts for a typical adult:

Understanding Patak's GDA panels
Patak's labels and packaging are currently being updated to include a GDA panel on the front of pack. The panel explains:
  • How much sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt, plus the number of calories that are contained in each serving
  • The percentage that this accounts for of the recommended guideline daily amount for each nutrient
