Spicy Chicken Bhuna

A Bhuna is a popular feature on many Indian restaurant and takeaway menus in the UK, and is actually a cooking process where the spices are fried first with the meat then added to cook in it's own juices. This is a similar process to cooking with our Spice Pastes. A the taste of a Bhuna can vary, however it is often quite a dry curry. This is a very simple recipe using our Bhuna Spice Paste, and you can make it drier if you prefer by using less water, It is spicy, tangy and full of flavour.

Ingredients

Serves 4 people

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 medium onion (approx. 140g) diced
  • 70g - 1/4 jar of Patak's Bhuna Paste
  • 250g diced chicken breast
  • 200g canned chopped tomatoes
  • 200ml water

Method

  1. Heat oil in a medium saucepan, add onions and cook on medium heat until golden brown. (approx 7 minutes)
  2. Add Patak's Bhuna Spice Paste and cook with 100 ml water and evaporate it all on medium heat.(approx 5 minutes)
  3. Add chicken and cook on high heat until sealed(approx 1 minute)
  4. Add tomatoes and other 100 ml water and cook on medium heat till the chicken is cooked and the sauce is reduced to desired consistency(approx 12 minutes)
  5. Equally delicious with beef, lamb or vegetables in which case the cooking time may vary.
