Spicy Tomato Chicken (Tarivali Murgh)

This is a really simple alterative to a Rogan Josh - the main difference being that it is a bit heavier on the tomato element and is really wonderfully rich and tantalisingly tasty - a real treat.

This recipe features

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 green cardamom pods
  • 3 tbsp Patak's Rogan Josh Paste
  • 250g canned chopped tomatoes
  • 100ml single cream
  • 50ml yogurt
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
  • 450g chicken, diced
  • 150ml water

Methods

  1. Heat the oil in a pan and add the Patak's Rogan Josh Curry Paste, green cardamom pods and chicken.  Fry on a low heat for 5 minutes until the meat is sealed and coated with the paste.
  2. Add the chopped tomatoes and water and bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 10 - 15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
  3. Stir in the single cream and yogurt and simmer uncovered for a further 2 minutes.
  4. If desired remove the green cardamom pods and discard.
  5. Serve garnished with the fresh coriander, accompanied by rice and naan breads.
